Publications

Was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She lives and works in Los Angeles, Palm Springs and Rio de Janeiro. Monteiro’s work embraces the contrasts found in her explorations of varied environments – deserts, tropics, oceans, urban centers.

Themes of the limits of human perception, emptiness and the void, and psychological and physical containment recur in her paintings, cyanotypes, and mixed-media installations.

Monteiro alters perceptions and breaks cognitive expectations through a process of continually reworking ideas until the pigments and forms arrive at a layered visual transformation and aesthetic poetry.
